GSK announce 150 new drugs jobs for Cork plant
Pharmaceutical firm, GlaxoSmithKline, yesterday announced that they are poised to create a 150 jobs after the powerful Food & Drug Administration (FDA) in the US earlier this month ratified GSK’s new treatment, Tykerb, for breast cancer.
The drug – which will be manufactured at GSK’s giant Cork plant – is expected to prove one of the biggest selling drugs on the market given that trials have shown it can double the life expectancy rate of those being treated for breast cancer.
The good news on jobs is a major relief to the Government, which had been slated by Opposition groups after more than 1,200 job losses in Cork over the last two months from Motorola, FCI, Pfizer and Elva. Various investment projects are now poised to create almost 1,200 new jobs.
